The Arno River in central Italy runs from the Apennines Mountains to the Ligurian Sea. Florence and Pisa are cities along the Arno River. Leonardo drew detailed maps of the river and its tributaries. He also drafted plans to divert the Arno into a canal from Florence to the sea that would enable travel and irrigation.
